What is the toughest chewing gum?

Looking for the hardest, toughest gum to chisel your jawline and tone your face? You’re in luck—lock in and keep reading.

We get it. You’re tired of trying to build up your masculine facial features with weak-ass gas station gums, and maybe you’ve even heard how toxic they are—yes, even “healthy” alternatives or those specifically marketed for jaw definition contain harmful ingredients.

But now, as your options seem slim, you feel condemned to a life of chewing stinky beef jerky sticks for jaw muscle gains and aren’t sure what to do next. Don’t get us wrong, we love beef jerky, but the point here is to get a caveman-like jawline, not caveman-like breath.

That’s where mastic gum comes in. Perfectly tough, all-natural, single-ingredient gums that will not only improve your bad breath, but also get your jawline jacked so the Stacey’s start swoonin’ and good fortune and better opportunities come knockin’ at your door (see the Halo Effect).

Below, we’ll make our case for why mastic gum is the Top G(um), blowing all others out of the water, especially when it comes to the factor that matters most for facial fitness from chewing gum: toughness—we’ll also factor in health risks and price because unlike certain gum brands we don’t want you broke and infertile.

And sure, we’re biased, but having been avid chewers of conventional gums for decades and trying out all the competition—putting our health at risk for you in the process as you’ll see—we’ll confidently die on the hill that mastic gum is your best choice as it checks all the boxes in terms of health, quality, rechewability, and of course, toughness.

Mastic gum is the best chewing gum. Greco Gum is the best mastic gum. Do with that information what you will.

Read on for our ratings and rankings of these 5 gums commonly (mis)used for chiseling the jaw:

  • “Gas Station Gum”
  • Falim
  • Jawline Gum
  • Chicle-Based Gum
  • Mastic Gum

First up, perhaps the worst of the bunch.

“Gas Station Gum”

Unfortunately, for most of us, these are what come to mind when we hear the word ‘gum’. You’ll find these at any gas station, convenience store, or grocery store checkout line in the country; we’re talking your Tridents, Eclipses, Extras, 5 Gums, and Orbits—the list goes on.

Common Toxins in Chewing Gums and Associated Health Risks

Why are there so many choices for practically the same product? The world may never know. The world may also never know why anyone would choose to chew these when they’re filled with toxins like:

  • BHA or BHT, preservatives banned in Europe for their potentially carcinogenic and endocrine-disrupting effects (testosterone, thyroid).1
  • Titanium Dioxide, a whitening agent also banned in Europe for its ability to accumulate in tissues and damage DNA.2
  • Plastics like polyvinyl acetate or polyethylene (AKA the “gum base” on the ingredient label) that leach endocrine-disrupting, carcinogenic microplastics into your mouth with every chew.3

But the health risks aren’t the only thing that blows about conventional gums. They’re also far too soft and flimsy, making them practically incapable of stimulating your jaw muscles for growth.

Still, you may be tempted to pick up a pack because they’re convenient, smell and taste nice, and have a lower perceived price compared to mastic gum. But if you did, you’d be making a mistake. Here’s why.

Price Comparison: Mastic vs. Plastic

Say an average pack of 15 pieces of gum is $4. To get the same number of pieces you’d find in a tin of Greco Gum’s Mastic Nuggets (around 130 pieces), you’d have to buy 9 packs for a total of ~$36!

Compare that to our Nuggets at $38.98, and you’ve got a less effective, more toxic product for the same price. And that’s without factoring in how many pieces you’d have to chew to get the same resistance mastic provides. Overall, “regular” chewing gum is detrimental to your health, jawline, and wallet.

Don’t pay to poison yourself!

Falim

Falim is a popular gum in the looksmaxxing and mewing communities due to its decent toughness and cheaper price point (100 pieces for $13). We hate to be the bearers of bad news, but this is a case of too good to be true—one look into Falim’s ingredients raises more red flags than a gaslighting matador. And we call bullshit!

Speaking of gaslighting, Falim often masquerades as mastic gum in its marketing, but don’t be fooled. If you didn’t know, Turkey is notorious for fakes: luxury clothing and bags, teeth and hair, and now gum. Sad!

In reality, this is just mastic resin used for flavoring, not to be confused with true mastic gum, where mastic resin is the gum base and only ingredient. Furthermore, Falim is filled with the same toxic trash as gas station gums: plastic gum base, BHT/BHA, Titanium Dioxide (E171 on the label), and acesulfame K—an artificial sweetener shown to disrupt the gut microbiome. 4

All things considered, we advise you to stay away from this toxic Turkish imitation and go for authentic mastic gum to get your jawline juiced.

Jawline Gums

Popular jawline gums like Jawliner, Jawz, and Jawcko often advertise themselves as 10-15x tougher than average gum, making them seem like the obvious choice if you want to chew and mew your way to 10/10 chad jawline status—but they come with some major downsides.

These gums often slap a “vegan” label on their packaging (obvious greenwashing) while conveniently leaving out ingredient labels on their web stores to stop you from investigating what’s actually in them that grants their toughness. Spoiler alert: It’s more plastic!

They say keep your friends close, but your enemies closer. As these gums are our biggest competitors, we had to go undercover and try them ourselves—even if it meant voluntarily ingesting microplastics. You can’t say we don’t care about our customers.

We had low expectations going in, but our experience was worse than we could have imagined. Sure, the harder plastic gum base they use grants higher resistance, but not in a good way. Instead of being tough but still malleable enough to sink into your teeth with ease like mastic gum, jawline gums are bouncy and flavors tend to disintegrate after a minute or so, resulting in the decadent experience of chewing on a burnt tire.

In an ironic twist, jawline gums try too hard to be hard, and it completely backfires, with one brand even subconsciously acknowledging this, advertising its gum as just a “decent workout for your jaw and face muscles.” Do you want just a decent jaw workout or the best?

Mastic gum is quite tough, but because each piece is unique, we recommend arming yourself with both the larger Nuggets and smaller Droplets, so if your initial nugget isn’t satisfactory in toughness, you’re able to supplement it with droplets until the desired consistency is achieved. This tactic and mastic gum’s natural texture allow for a longer, more sustainable chew as opposed to jawline gum, where you’re forced to chew like crazy for the minute it’s tolerable to have in your mouth.

Chew mastic, not these jank jawline money grabs. Case closed.

Chicle-Based Gums

Unlike the toxic trash we’ve discussed so far, chicle-based gums like Glee Gum, Simply Gum, and Chewsy are actually “gums” in the true sense of the word because they use chicle, an all-natural, tree-derived latex.

These get points for going au naturel, but you’re still forced to double or triple up to get a proper jaw workout because chicle gums fall on the softer (and pricier) side. Additionally, though chicle gum is all natural, it doesn’t compare to the robust, healthy chemical profile of mastic gum.

All in, mastic is a better bang for your buck, though these are your next best options when you’re due for a chew, but can’t get your hands on any Greco Gum.

Mastic Gum

Mastic gum is used for both medicinal and aesthetic purposes and is tough enough to give your jaw a great workout with just one piece while still being flexible and soft enough to be chewed casually while you work, work out, or just go about your day. But what exactly makes mastic gum so tough?

Unlike conventional gums that use plastic, mastic gum is packed with a natural terpene-based polymer (poly-β-myrcene), which gives it a firm yet elastic, long-lasting chew. When chewed consistently, mastic gum is the perfect addition to your facial fitness looksmaxxing routine—just check out what it did for our friend Marcel!

True mastic gum (like Greco Gum) contains no artificial preservatives, colorings, or flavorings, plastics, whitening agents, thickeners, stabilizers, or any other toxins, making it the obvious choice for anyone looking to improve their beauty and facial fitness without jeopardizing their health.

Note: Mastic gum is not for you if you’re looking for a sweet, saccharine chew to pass the time between your sugary snacks and DoorDash Happy Meals; like cigars, fine wines, and whiskeys, mastic gum is an acquired taste for the Epicurean palette.
